   Re: The devils with halos imagery. I once read the theory that halos are not circles of light hovering on an angels head, but circular horns, which broke when they were flung from heaven, creating the devil horns we think of today. That image always stayed with me, and your discussion made me think of it. I don’t see the “devils with halos” as the villains in this song either, but as fallen angels easing the passage of the fallen pilots, who similarly “fell from heaven”. In non-metaphorical terms, we all hold the capacity for good and bad; angels can fall and become devils, and war pilots are sort of the flip-side of that, they are destructive while in the air, but can be brought down.
